What is a CIMA MCS pre-seen?
A CIMA Management Case Study pre-seen introduces the fictional organisation used in the examination.
It is released before the exam so that candidates can become familiar with the business before they are asked to deal with new developments.
A pre-seen can include information about:
- the industry;
- customers;
- products and services;
- competitors;
- employees;
- operations;
- technology;
- management;
- business models;
- financial statements;
- sustainability;
- external developments.
The examination then introduces additional unseen information.
Candidates are expected to combine the pre-seen, unseen facts and relevant technical knowledge when responding.
Context before recall
Why the pre-seen matters
The purpose of studying the pre-seen is not to memorise every sentence.
It is to understand the organisation well enough that the facts become useful when the unseen arrives.
For example, a candidate who already understands:
- where the company makes its money;
- its main costs;
- its operational constraints;
- its competitive position;
- its financial position;
- its strategic priorities;
can spend more of the exam analysing the new problem and less time trying to understand the business from scratch.
Strong pre-seen preparation therefore creates context.
That context improves the quality and specificity of exam answers.
Two-window cycle
How the MCS pre-seen cycle works
May + August
One Management Case Study pre-seen normally covers the May and August examination windows.
November + February
A new Management Case Study pre-seen normally covers the November examination window and the following February.
For the current cycle, Wuudbreak is used for November 2026 and February 2027.
The next Management Case Study pre-seen after Wuudbreak will be released for the May and August 2027 cycle.
When that case is released, Wuudbreak will remain permanently available in the MSL archive.

Four stages
How to use a pre-seen properly
A useful pre-seen process has four stages.
Know the facts
Understand the organisation and the information CIMA has actually provided.
Do not replace case facts with assumptions.
Understand the business
Ask what the facts mean commercially.
A 94% occupancy figure, for example, means more than “occupancy is high”. It may also say something about spare capacity and future growth.
Connect the syllabus
Think about the E2, P2 and F2 areas that could help management deal with the issues identified.
Practise change
The real examination will introduce new information.
Preparation should therefore move from understanding the current business to asking:
