Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - Guide to Becoming a CIMA Member using the CA Accelerated Route
Welcome to Excellence. Welcome to World Class.
-
What is the CIMA program at MSL Business School?
This program constitutes a specialized accelerated pathway designed specifically for finance professionals, most notably ICAG Chartered Accountants, to obtain the globally distinguished ACMA, CGMA designation. In strategic collaboration with the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA & CIMA), this curriculum is engineered to facilitate your progression from a qualified Ghana-qualified practitioner to a globally recognized business leader.
-
Why should I pursue the ACMA + CGMA designation?
The CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant) designation commands recognition in over 180 jurisdictions. Distinct from traditional accounting disciplines that prioritize historical reporting, this qualification emphasizes strategic leadership, enterprise risk management, and forward-looking decision-making, thereby equipping candidates with the requisite competencies for C-Suite executive roles.
-
Who is eligible for this pathway?
This "Strategic Level Only" route is exclusive to fully qualified members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG).
ICAG Members: You receive 15 exemptions (covering Certificate, Operational, and Management levels) and are only required to write one paper (the Strategic Case Study).
If you have completed your ICAG exams but have not yet graduated or received your certificate, you are still eligible. You will need a Letter of Good Standing from ICAG and your transcript.
Non-Members: MBA holders and ACCA members are also welcome but may start at the Management Level depending on their specific exemptions.
-
Can I apply if I still have papers left to complete in my ICAG exams?
It is strongly recommended that you finish your ICAG qualification first. Once you are a full member, you qualify for the maximum exemptions (skipping 15 papers). If you join before qualifying, you may have to start at a lower level (Operational or Management).
-
What is the format of the Strategic Case Study (SCS) exam?
The SCS is a computer-based business simulation. You do not perform calculations. Instead, you play the role of a Senior Finance Manager and write reports, emails, and memos to the Board of Directors based on a "Pre-Seen" case study released weeks in advance.
-
When are the exams held?
There are four exam windows per year. February, May, August and November.
Planning Tip: The May and August exams use the same pre-seen material. November uses a different pre-seen, which is then re-used in February. It is therefore advisable to register for May so you have August as a backup without needing to learn a new industry.
The upcoming dates for the 2026 cycle are:
May 2026 Window: Exams run May 20 – 22, 2026 (Pre-seen released April 2).
August 2026 Window: Exams run August 19 – 21, 2026 (Uses the same Pre-seen as May).
-
Where can I write the exam?
1. Pearson VUE Centers: Available globally (recommended for reliable power/internet).
2. Online/Home: You can take the exam from your home or office if you have a reliable setup.
-
What topics does the exam cover?
Although you are exempt from the objective tests, you must understand the core theories from the three strategic papers to pass the integrated Strategic Case Study Exam. The MSL tuition program prepares you for this:
1. E3 (Strategic Management)
2. P3 (Risk Management)
3. F3 (Financial Strategy)
-
What is the tuition fee at MSL Business School?
The Complete Access fee at MSL is GHS 1,350.
This covers support for May and August 2026. This ensures that if you are unable to sit in May, or if your attempt was unsuccessful, you can retake the class for the next sitting using the same pre-seen material, without paying tuition again.
This fee provides comprehensive support for a first-attempt pass, including:
1. Strategic Theory Revision: A condensed overview of E3, P3, and F3 syllabus topics.
