Question-led guide

Which CITG entry route applies to you?

I am a member of ICAG, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA

Completed professional membership may qualify you for exemption from all six Professional Level papers, subject to documentation and CITG's written approval. Your likely next stage is Final Level 1.

I am a lawyer in Ghana

The recognised Ghana legal route may qualify for the six Professional Level exemptions. Obtain the formal decision before selecting Final Level 1 papers.

I hold the CITG Taxation Technician Certificate

The expected pattern is exemption from papers 1, 2 and 4, leaving papers 3, 5 and 6 at Professional Level, subject to CITG confirmation.

I hold a specialised master's in taxation

A completed specialised master's degree in taxation can qualify for exemptions extending into Final Level 1. Submit your certificate and full transcript so your exact exempted papers can be confirmed.

I hold a degree, HND or GRA Basic Professional Certificate

Expect a subject-by-subject assessment rather than a universal fixed exemption list. Submit the completed qualification and transcript.

My qualification is incomplete or not listed

Do not assume exemptions. Check entry eligibility and obtain an individual assessment before paying for papers or tuition.

The complete pathway

What happens after your exemptions are confirmed?

Professional Level

Six foundation papers. Your written exemption decision identifies which of these, if any, you still need to pass.

Final Level 1

Three specialist papers: Tax Audit and Investigations; Oil, Gas and Other Minerals Taxation; International Taxation.

Final Level 2

Three final papers: Strategic Tax Planning; Advanced Taxation Practice; Tax Practice Administration and Ethics. Final Level 2 papers are not exemptable.

Before you pay

How should you plan exemption and examination fees?

Fees can change. Use the current CITG fee schedule or MSL's freshly reviewed registration and exemptions guides rather than relying on an old screenshot, post or calculator result.

Get the paper decision

Confirm the exact exemptions awarded and the papers left to complete.

Check the current fee

Separate CITG registration, subscription, exemption and examination fees from tuition fees.

Map the sitting

Use the current timetable and progression rules before registering for a combination of papers.

Common questions

CITG qualification and exemption questions

Can a specialised master's degree in taxation lead to Final Level 1 exemptions?

Yes. A completed specialised master's degree in taxation can qualify for exemptions extending into Final Level 1. Submit your certificate and full transcript for assessment because the exact exempted papers depend on your qualification and academic record.

Are exemptions automatic for members of another professional body?

No. A completed recognised membership route may support the expected exemption pattern, but you still need to apply, provide the required documents and receive the written decision.

Which papers remain after the CITG Taxation Technician Certificate?

The expected remaining Professional Level papers are Accounting and Finance, Revenue and Business Law, and Strategy and Governance, subject to CITG's confirmation for the applicant.

Can I receive an exemption from a Final Level 2 paper?

No. Final Level 2 papers are not exemptable.

When are CITG examinations held?

CITG normally holds professional examination sittings in February and August. Use the current CITG exam timetable guide for the next confirmed dates, times and centres.

Does MSL teach every CITG level?

No. MSL currently provides tuition for Final Level 1 and Final Level 2. The Professional Level hub and qualification guides are provided to help every candidate understand the route accurately.
