Who should choose which?

Choose ICAG if you want to

  • Work as a professional accountant in the private or public sector, in a company or a public institution.
  • Build a career in financial reporting, auditing or management accounting.
  • Move into senior finance roles such as Finance Manager, CFO or Financial Controller.
  • Keep the broadest career options across Ghana’s private and public sectors.

The CA designation opens doors across every industry in Ghana. If you are unsure which direction your career will take, ICAG gives you the widest range of options.

Choose CITG if you want to

  • Specialise in Ghana’s tax system and become a recognised tax expert.
  • Work in tax advisory, tax compliance or revenue administration.
  • Build a practice advising businesses and individuals on tax matters.
  • Work with the Ghana Revenue Authority or in legal and financial services.

If you are already a Chartered Accountant or a lawyer, CITG is particularly attractive: you are automatically exempt from all six Professional Level papers, so you can complete the qualification significantly faster.

09

Can you do both?

Yes, and many of Ghana’s most accomplished finance professionals do. ICAG and CITG are complementary, not competing. A professional holding both the CA and MCITG designations is exceptionally well-positioned in Ghana’s job market.

For Chartered Accountants, adding CITG is especially efficient: the full Professional Level exemption means you jump straight to Final Level 1, with only six papers standing between you and a second professional designation. Many MSL students study both qualifications, and the teaching team covers both, so you never have to change providers.

Why study with MSL

MSL Business School is Ghana’s most-awarded professional education provider, with 46 national awards across ICAG, CITG and CIMA. As Ghana’s clear technology leader in professional education, and the first and only provider with multimodal AI for professional exam students, MSL teaches both ICAG and CITG with the same team, so students pursuing both never change providers.

All classes are delivered live online via Google Meet. Every session is recorded and uploaded to the MSL Business School App the same day, so you never fall behind wherever you are. The app also includes quizzes, flashcards, a leaderboard, and MSL SmartConnect for peer collaboration. There are no hidden fees: you pay tuition per paper, per sitting.

Registration is open for the next ICAG and CITG intake. Study with Ghana’s most-awarded professional education provider.

ICAG vs CITG in seven points

  • ICAG is the broad credential: the Chartered Accountant (CA) title across accounting, audit and finance, 14 papers, three sittings a year.
  • CITG is the tax specialism: the Chartered Tax Practitioner (MCITG) title, 12 papers, two sittings a year.
  • Different focus: ICAG spans the whole profession; CITG is Ghana-specific tax practice, law and planning.
  • They combine well: a CA is exempt from all six CITG Professional Level papers and starts at Final Level 1.
  • CITG exemptions are generous: CA, ACCA, CIMA and GBA lawyers all skip the Professional Level.
  • Final Level 2 is fixed: CITG’s three Final Level 2 papers cannot be exempted by anyone.
  • The strongest position in Ghana’s market is holding both the CA and MCITG designations.
